Specialty hip replacement and care we offer
Whether you're facing aches and pain in your hip or you need hip replacement surgery, we offer services to support your needs.
Comprehensive care for chronic hip pain
Our providers treat hip conditions with a variety of therapies. But if your condition or symptoms are complex, you may require hip replacement surgery.
A number of conditions can cause injury, damage or wear on the articular cartilage, or the soft tissue located between the bones of your hip. Physical therapy, medications and injections to reduce inflammation often are effective to treat the symptoms and effects of hip conditions. However, if these traditional treatment options aren't effective, your surgeon may recommend arthroscopy, a minimally invasive procedure to clean or remove damaged bone and tissue. If you have severe symptoms, ongoing pain or serious hip damage from an injury, or have been diagnosed with arthritis in your hip joint, your specialist may recommend hip replacement surgery.
Total hip replacement surgery
Total hip replacement surgery is a procedure in which your surgeon will remove damaged bone and cartilage from your hip joint and replace them with artificial materials. With a total hip replacement, in addition to removing damaged tissue and bone, your surgeon will insert a liner made of either plastic, ceramic or metal in place of the acetabulum (the "socket" portion of the hip joint's ball and socket). Your surgeon will then replace the damaged portions of the femoral head (the hip joint's "ball") and femur (the thigh bone) and make sure everything is secured and aligned correctly. Your surgeon will then repair the muscles and tendons around the new joint as needed before completing your surgery.
Total hip replacement is one of the most successful orthopedic procedures performed for patients with hip arthritis. This procedure can relieve pain, restore function, improve your movements at work and play, and provide you with a better quality of life.
Diagnosis
We offer a variety of techniques and services to help diagnose your hip related issues. Your specialist likely will use one or more of the following to diagnose your condition:
- A review of your medical history
- Physical exam
- Imaging, such as X-ray, computerized tomography (CT) scan or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan
What to expect after hip replacement surgery
After undergoing total hip replacement, you must take special care to prevent the new joint from dislocating and to ensure proper healing. We'll work to provide you with the education and support you need to recover from your procedure safely and as quickly as possible.
